About the USDA Rural Energy for America Program

Rural Energy for America Program (REAP)

The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) provides funding to eligible rural small businesses and agricultural producers for renewable energy and energy-efficiency projects. Eligible projects can include solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, hydropower, and energy-efficiency improvements.

REAP can be an excellent funding opportunity for businesses looking to reduce energy costs, improve efficiency, or invest in on-site renewable energy. Historically, renewable-energy projects have been eligible for grants of up to $1 million, subject to applicable program requirements and funding availability.

Important 2026 update: USDA is currently updating the REAP regulations and has announced that a new funding opportunity will be issued under the updated program rules. USDA is not currently accepting new REAP grant applications while those changes are being implemented. REAP guaranteed loans remain available during this transition.
